Two Monitors, One Style: TaskbarX for Multi-Screen Desks

Two Monitors, One Style: TaskbarX for Multi-Screen Desks

Adding a second monitor changes how you work, but Windows treats the extra taskbar as an afterthought. Icons sit wherever they like, the styling is fixed, and the clock historically appeared on one screen only. The multi-monitor support in taskbarx is built for people who live on two or three displays and want every bar to look deliberate.

    Centring Across Every Screen

TaskbarX can centre the icon group on the primary taskbar and on each secondary taskbar independently. That matters more than it sounds: on a side monitor, centred icons line up under your content instead of hiding in a corner, and switching between apps feels consistent no matter which screen you are looking at.

You can also choose how centring is calculated on each screen, whether the Start button joins the centred group, and where the system tray and clock appear. Many users keep the tray on the main screen only, leaving secondary bars as clean rows of centred app icons.

    Per-Monitor Styles

Style settings can differ per taskbar. A common arrangement is acrylic on the main display, where you read notifications and labels all day, and full transparency on the secondary screen that mostly shows chat, music or reference material. Vertical monitors benefit too: a transparent bar along the bottom of a portrait display wastes none of its narrow width on visual clutter.

Because the configurator applies changes live, you can walk around your own setup, adjusting one screen at a time until the whole desk feels unified. Save once, and the arrangement returns after every restart.

Dealing With Quirks and Edge Cases

Multi-monitor life has its odd moments, and it is worth knowing how the tool handles them. When you dock or undock a laptop, taskbars appear and disappear; the layout reapplies as the screens settle, and reopening the configurator forces an immediate recalculation if anything looks off. Mixed scaling, a 4K main screen beside a 1080p side screen, is handled by calculating each bar’s centre from its own icons rather than copying measurements across. Portrait monitors get the same treatment as landscape ones. If an employer-issued machine restricts start-up programs, the portable version run manually still gives you the layout for that session. None of these edge cases needs a workaround more complicated than a click.

Before you settle, stand back and look at the whole desk from the doorway, the way a visitor would see it. Alignment problems that hide at sitting distance announce themselves from three steps away: a bar that sits heavier on one screen, an opacity that does not match its neighbour. Two minutes of adjusting with that wider view produces the kind of setup that earns compliments, and once it is saved, the tool quietly maintains it through restarts, updates and the occasional cable shuffle that used to undo your layout.

    Real-World Layouts That Work

For a work desk, try centred icons everywhere, tray and clock on the main screen, and a gentle blur so text stays readable over documents. For a gaming desk, make the main bar transparent for immersion and keep the second bar opaque with centred launchers. For a trading or monitoring desk with three screens, identical centring and the same opacity on all three bars keeps the wall of data calm.

Windows updates and display changes occasionally shuffle taskbars; if a layout ever slips, reopening the configurator and reapplying your settings restores it in seconds.

Multi-monitor setups deserve better than default taskbars. Download the tool from taskbarx.org and give every screen the same care you gave your main one.
